Much more than I expected

4 stars

On starting Finders Keepers I thought I had made a mistake and would not enjoy it. For me, it was a bumpy start that held little promise. But I gave it more time and saw I was wrong. There was quite an interesting story, choked full of twists and turns, that kept me on the hook.

Rose finds out a book has been published based on her old diary. Ok, not so bad but possibly problematic if in the diary you state you killed someone. Emily Harper, who published the book, seems like sweetest and light personified but no. She has a darker side and had a feeling the writer of the diary would one day come to claim it from her. What unfolds is far more intricate and complex than that simple explanation of the story. It's much more fun than that.

Rose is a prickly girl who isn't particularly easy to warm to, with reason. But with time her quirks make her charming and her quest to reclaim the old laptop housing her diary becomes her sole focus. Full of humour, mystery and a sharp wittiness, Finders Keepers evolved into so much more than the reader might expect. The ending may have been a titch too tidy but that's easy to overlook in such a fun novel.
